Some Uncommon Charts in Power Bi
Lets discuss some not commonly used charts
Power Bi offer a variety of charts to chose from to get accurate and precise data analysis. Line , bar ,column, area are some a data analyst use almost everyday .
But there are some really fun -not so commonly used charts that can really take your analysis to a different level .
Lets try and understand some :
- Ribbon Charts:
For the examples below , we assume a job posting dataset which has information on different data related job postings , the countries they are posted for , salary , date of the job posting , salary details and so on
Take a look at the image before you , that’s a ribbon chart . As the name suggests it visualizes the data in form of colorful ribbons flowing through. Ribbon chart is predominantly for time related data or data with time related attributes and that goes to the X -axis . You can drill down the time axis down all the way to day from year . Here we have drilled it down to quarters of job posting dates
The Y-axis is the parameter we need to investigate against time . Here in this example its the countries where job postings are available (“job country”)
As you might have already noticed , there are exact 10 different colors , one each for 10 different countries, we achieved that by adding the column “job country " to the “legend” field and by filtering it to top 10 .
From just a glance its easily evident that the United States had the most job postings in the first quarter of the year then gradually decreased in the amount of job posted as it reaches the last quarter of the year.
Interestingly , Sudan started of as the 6th country with most number of job postings in the first 3 months of the year but in the last three , it was the country with least number of data related job posted . Guess Sudan does not hire data employees in winter !
